OOTDBuy Spreadsheet GuideWho is responsible at each handoff

About

An independent reader of the official pages

This guide is written by the OOTDBuy Spreadsheet Guide editorial desk. It exists because the rules that decide what an order costs when something goes wrong are published, but they are spread across a dozen announcement pages and written in the order a lawyer would write them.

What we do is read those pages, date what we read, and put the rules in the order a person meets them. Where a page is unclear or contradicts itself, we say so rather than picking the reading that sounds better. The clearest example is the responsibility table, the log of what we have re-read is on the updates page, and the official contact routes are on the help page.

How this is paid for

We are a partner of the agent. Links to ootdbuy.com are referral links, and that is the entire business model of this site. Product entries link to our own catalogue.

The obvious question is whether that changes what gets written. The honest answer is that it creates a pull, and the way we handle it is to mark the places where nobody covers you rather than skipping them. A guide that only listed the good parts would be less useful and, in the end, worse for the agent too.

We hold no stock, take no payments and have no access to your account. If this site disappeared tomorrow your order would be unaffected.

How a page here gets written

The method is deliberately boring, because the failure mode for guides like this is confident writing on top of a half-remembered rule.

  1. Read the official page in full

Not the summary, and not another guide. Announcement pages are the only source for anything about policy.

  2. Write down what it actually says

Including the parts that are awkward. The five day window and the excluded categories are the two that most guides skip.

  3. Date it

Every quoted rule carries the date we read it, and the updates page carries the same dates in one list.

  4. Say where it is unclear

Where two official pages disagree, both readings go in. We do not resolve a contradiction on the agent behalf.

What this site does and does not do

Worth being explicit, because a guide that looks official is worse than one that looks like what it is.

What we do

  • Read and date the official rules, and link to every one of them
  • Explain the chain of responsibility in the order a buyer meets it
  • Point at product entries on our own catalogue, and at the agent for ordering
  • Correct things when a reader tells us we have them wrong

What we do not do

  • Sell anything, hold stock, or take payments
  • See, change, cancel or refund your order
  • Guarantee prices, delivery times, stock or the outcome of any case
  • Publish quality judgements about individual sellers or items
